A DRIVER had a lucky escape when their car burst into flames on the motorway.
Fire crews from Wigan were called to the northbound carriageway of the M6, at Junction 27, near Shevington, after a Vauxhall Astra had set alight. The motorist had pulled over to the hard shoulder after noticing a burning smell.
The car was destroyed by the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault. One lane of the motorway was closed while the wreckage was cleared.
