Mum hails US autism link research claim
A WIGAN mum who campaigns for vaccine-damaged children is claiming a major breakthrough in her battle for justice.
For the first time a former senior scientist from a pharmaceutical company has suggested there may be links between the MMR jab and autism.
For years the industry and British government have denied that the measles, mumps and rubella inoculation can cause serious and wide-spread side-effects.
Last year Jackie Fletcher, founder of the Jabs pressure group, secured compensation from the UK’s Vaccine Damage Payment Unit after it ruled that the severe disabilities her teenaged son Robert has were caused by his MMR as a baby.
There are thousands of other parents signed up to the Jabs movement who believe that their children’s disabilities – most notably autism a bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease – were caused by the vaccine.
Now Dr Helen V Ratajczak has published a major report in the US Journal of Immuno-Toxicology which reviews the possible causes of autism.
On a section covering MMR she acknowledges that there have been a number of reports denying an association between the jab and MMR. But she then points to a rise in the condition in Denmark after MMR was introduced there.
Mrs Fletcher said: “This report is of great significance to our drive to get the authorities to recognised the risks posed by MMR.
“I have been in contact with my MP Andy Burnham in regard to the rules, such as the one which does not allow the parents of children under the age of two to claim. I hope he can raise this in Parliament.”

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 09:46 AMI cannot even begin to express my admiration for Jackie Fletcher, who has spent nearly twenty years attempting to raise public and political awareness about the risks of the MMR vaccine, via her internet support and pressure group JABS. It took Jackie 18 years to obtain a compensation award for her son Robert. The award was inadequate to pay for his lifelong care, but at least it was a UK official acknowledgement of the terrible damage that MMR vaccine can do. Previously, our government sponsored medical establishment insisted the MMR vaccine was completely safe and had been 'rigorously' tested before being implemented. In fact, there was very little 'in depth' research carried out at all before implementing a vaccine which injected three live viruses into children all at the same time. This had NEVER been done before in the UK. The first MMR vaccine, called Pluserix, introduced into the UK in 1988, had already been banned in Canada for causing seizures and meningitis in children. It was three years before our UK Government, (Conservative), withdrew this vaccine. The damage it caused, including infant deaths and Robert's terrible disabilities has been concealed by successive UK governments . In the US at last, There has been some official recognition of vaccine damage, including MMR, and some PROPER research is now to be carried out into vaccine safety. (Previously only government and pharmaceutical sponsored statistical studies were carried out, purporting to 'prove' no rise in autism, was taking place post MMR; these have now been discredited). In the US this initiative was in response to an official poll which found a majority of parents were worried about vaccines administered to their children. In the US the MMR vaccine is mandatory. I trust the excellent report by Dr Ratajczak is the first of many to receive official acknowledgement. There have been many studies which replicated the findings of Dr Andrew Wakefield, the UK doctor vilified and struck off by the GMC for his research discoveries, which seemed to indicate a link between MMR bowel disease and autism in some children. Since 1988, there has been an exponential increase in autism in the UK. This condition now affects around 1 in 60 children; many have other disabilities including bowel disease and epilepsy. In 1998, Dr Wakefield advocated a return to single measles mumps and rubella jabs until more research was carried out into MMR vaccine. The UK Government's response to this was to withdraw the choice of monovalent jabs on the NHS, forcing parents to go private or have their children vaccinated with MMR. The huge rise in autism and associated conditions like attention deficit disorder and epilepsy are causing havoc in our NHS and education systems. Many of these chidren, like Robert, are now adults requiring life long care. If only our uncaring 'establishment' had listened to Dr Wakefield and taken his advice. Jackie has been campaigning for even longer. These persons are heroes.
