A MAN has appeared in court accused of murdering the son of a Wigan Evening Post photographer.

Barry Cookson, of Westfield Drive, Leyland, is charged with killing 37-year-old John Leatherbarrow on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination has concluded that Mr Leatherbarrow from Ulnes Walton, whose dad is local newspaper lensman John Snr, suffered fatal blood loss from a stab wound. Police had been called to Westfield Drive at 12.30pm on Sunday after receiving a concerned phonecall and there they found Mr Leatherbarrow’s body.

Cookson was remanded in custody by Preston magistrates pending his next appearance.
