ONE of the borough’s top health chiefs has been added to the list of panellists for this evening’s hotly anticipated debate over the Healthier Together consultation.
Trish Anderson, the chief officer of the Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group (WBCCG) will join Dr Tim Dalton, Lord Peter Smith, Lisa Nandy, Sir Ian McCartney, Andrew Foster and Dr Chris Brookes on the panel for the event at the Town Hall tonight.
The Healthier Together consultation runs until September and seeks the views of residents in Wigan borough and across Greater Manchester.
However, the controversial element of the proposals involves a shake-up of the hospitals that serve the region.
Following the consultation it is planned to categorise hospitals into ‘local general’ hospitals or ‘specialist hospitals.’
It means those who do not become specialist centres will lose their acute emergency surgery services - of which Wigan could be one.
It is no secret that there are very differing views on the consultation among healthcare professionals and politicians.
The Healthier Together debate takes place at Wigan Town Hall this evening between 7-8.30pm.
