POLICE have said they have made no arrests after Wigan and Leeds rugby league fans brawled in a marquee before the Super League Grand Final.
They were called to a fight at a pub close to Old Trafford following an allegation of assault but there has been no further action.
Footage, which has gone viral on the internet, shows rival supporters from the Warriors and Rhinos fighting in a beer tent before Saturday’s showpiece occasion in Manchester.
The 25-second video shows punches being thrown as well as bottles and cans being launched into the melee while security guards attempt to restore order.
The shameful scenes have already been viewed more than 500,000 times on social media.
Eyewitness Andy Fenton wrote on Facebook: “It was brewing for a while. Just goading each other constantly. We walked in at 3pm and it was already one side of the marquee Wigan and one side Leeds then eventually just erupted.”
A spokesaman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called and receive a report of an assault at the place but no arrests have taken place.”
Wigan Warriors have vowed to help the police with any inquiries they make.
A club spokesman said: “Rugby league is a family sport and we will do everything we can to maintain the values of the sport.
“We are aware of the incident and are working closely with the authorities to help gather the facts.”
