OAP in court over sex charges

A pensioner has been accused of historical sex offences against girls - one dating back almost 40 years.

Ronald Peters, 71, appeared before Wigan and Leigh magistrates accused of five attacks spanning four decades.

He has been charged with three indecent assaults against girls under 16; two between 1983 and 1988, and one between 1977 and 1978.

Peters, of Petticoat Lane, Ince, also faces two charges of physical assault against girls under 13 between 2012 and 2013 and between 2012 and 2016 respectively.

Justices released him on bail conditional that he does not contact a number of named individuals, whose identities cannot be made public for legal reasons.

Peters is due to make his first appearance

before a judge at Bolton Crown Court on March 29.
