TWO pensioners were lucky to escape serious injury after they were sent flying in a town centre car smash.
The pair were in collision with a grey Vauxhall Astra outside the Lord Nelson pub in Bridge Street, Hindley, on Sunday evening.
The 84-year-old woman complained of soreness to her back and the 82-year-old sustained a knock to his head.
Paramedics were called to the scene and while their assessment of the injuries was that they were minor, both casualties were taken to hospital for precautionary check-ups on account of their age.
A police spokesman said that the driver of the Astra remained at the scene. No arrests have been made and an investigation into the circumstances is on-going.
