Old tins of beans are now designer lamps!
The Heinz lamps
THE contents are renowned for their versatility.
But now manfacturers have found an illuminating new use for the containers of Wigan-made baked beans.
Innovative designer Willem Hoeffer has cashed in on one of the mostly instantly recognisable household food products to come up with Heinz Beanz lampshades.
And while the Kitt Green-based company is in talks with him and the Irish company Fuse Finds that it is complying with all issues, it is both flattered and delighted that its iconic brand is being given yet another lease of life.
Hoeffer is using Heinz’s 2.2kg catering sized cans which have to be bought from wholesalers and has also used the equally familiar Campbell’s soup tins - once made famous by artist Andy Warhole for similar purposes in his Can Lights By Fuse range.
The ceiling roses are made from tuna cans!
And the retro-looking lamps have won plaudits from the Retro To Go website. A spokesman said: “With the help of Dublin’s many restaurants and cafés who collect the tin cans, these everyday waste objects are turned into eye-catching yet functional pendant lights. Think of it as your very own piece of ceiling pop art.”
And a Heinz spokesman said they were delighted to see the lights on sale.
He said: “We are talking to the company just to ensure that it is complying with our use of the trademark.
“But we see it as complimentary and think they look terrific.
“It is always good to see imaginative new uses for our brands.”
The Beanz lights are selling for £80 apiece with a discount if you buy them in threes.
