A FLOOD of fond memories came to me on learning of Dick Hatch’s passing.
He was a radio man when I first met him and then we spoke on a daily basis for years as he gamely fielded a barrage of reader questions on behalf of Wigan Council along with the late David Mather.
Dick, who in a previous life was a vicar, was never less than courteous, efficient and helpful. And as we had several pet subjects in common, not least classical music, there were plenty of jolly conversations which strayed away from work too.
A larger-than-life character who loved Wigan deeply, he bravely spent the last few years battling the effects of a devastating stroke. Dick, you’ll be sadly missed.
