COMMENT - A town needing a job boost

Have your say

RIVAL supermarkets may not think so, of course.

And neighbouring Asda-Walmart are known to have invoked their lawyers to fight against it, proverbial tooth and trolley

But in the minds of the good people of Golborne, there really is no debate necessary about Sainsbury’s proposals in Golborne to build a superstore on a failing industrial estate in the town.

There is just no way that this former mining village - which has never recovered from the closure of Kid Glove mine in the 1980s - can afford to turn it’s back on 425-plus jobs.

Particularly with the significant planning gain it will bring to the moribund town centre.

This will include a new car park which will also be available to all shoppers and visitors, whether they spend at Sainsbury’s or not.
