IN the current economic climate many a column inch has been taken up by stories of business decline.
So the news that a major employer in the borough is set to expand its operation, generating more job roles for local residents, is like a ray of sunshine appearing through grey clouds.
This, in addition to the economic benefits expected from the construction of the high speed rail link to come in the next decade, shows that there could be even better days for business in the borough on the horizon.
Hopefully those unfortunate workers who lost their jobs after the collapse of JJB, Comet, HW Glass, HMV and BHW Components among others will be able to get back into employment if they have not already done so.
With its proximity to major cities, industrial estates and the motorway networks, Wigan borough should be an attractive option for major business enterprises.
Fingers will be crossed that more companies follow Arrow XL’s lead and bring more jobs to Wigan.
