HEALTH chiefs have launched an alert about Bronchiolitis ahead of Christmas.
But Wigan Children’s Community Nursing Team are now advising parents of babies and toddlers to look out for the signs of common winter breathing infections and to think carefully about the kind of treatment their children might need. It habitually puts significant strain on NHS hospitals each year as the cold weather kicks in.
However staff within the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan NHS Children’s Community Nursing Team of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust, are now specially trained to treat youngsters in their homes rather than in hospital.
And they are asking now mums and dads to discuss with their GP how the service can help
In many cases their child’s condition is mild enough to be safely managed at home or in local clinics by the team of specialist children’s nurses.
Only in the most severe cases is admission to hospital required.
