THE council has not ruled out the possibility of providing live feeds of their meetings although a final decision will not be made until the Town Hall refurbishment works are completed.
On several occasions the public gallery has been full to capacity, especially when key decisions are being rarified in the chamber in recent years.
But it is a relative unknown whether a significant number of residents would tune in to watch the meetings to justify them being filmed.
It is perhaps a fair assertion that viewing figures would not be that substantial but that may not be a valid reason to rule it out completely.
The council is having to cope with huge cuts to its budget and it is understandable therefore that it does not want to throw money at this proposal straightaway.
But perhaps in the future, meetings being recorded could contribute to a rise in interest in local government and its processes.
And that may well prove to be an extremely positive outcome.
