YET another store in Wigan is having to close.
Although it’s becoming a regular occurrence that a high street store is forced to shut up shop, it’s still a sad and heartbreaking sight to see The Galleries Shopping Centre – what was once a bustling shopping centre – become an empty, deserted shell.
Desire will close next week after 15 years in the Marketgate part of the shopping centre.
A slow footfall in that part of the centre has been blamed as one of the reasons why the ladies fashion store had to close.
Wigan town centre was given a new lease of life when the Grand Arcade was built, but many worried that the suitable and adequate Galleries would be abandoned by shoppers – some would say that has happened.
While most of the centre is thriving, Marketgate is looking bleak, however centre bosses are remaining positive.
Desire bosses say they hope to reopen in a year’s time, but for now are concentrating on their internet site.
