STARSAILOR singer James Walsh returned to the North West last week for an intimate gig.
The former Wigan and Leigh College student played at the Live Lounge in Blackburn on Thursday and admitted he enjoys performing acoustic sets with his guitar.
He told The Lancashire Telegraph: “I’ve been doing this acoustic thing for most of the year armed with a guitar an army of pedals and some drum sounds on my laptop. “There were some Starsailor songs and some covers plus new material I’ve been writing.”
He also spoke of writing songs for other people, including last year’s X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
He added: “I’ve been fairly closely involved with a lot of the recordings usually in the room while they’ve been taking place so I can still have some input.”
He has also been working with producer Eliot James who has worked with Noah and the Whale and Two Door Cinema Club.
He said: “Eliot’s started to do some songwriting and I’ve been picking up the studio side from him which has been an interesting experience.”
There are also rumours he is about to get involved in work on another movie, but he wont reveal any more.
He also dashed any hope of Starsailor reforming any time soon.
He said: “Perhaps it needs a major catalyst to get Starsailor back on the road but we have had an amazing time.
“We were a pretty big band and the fact that we are all doing pretty well in different fields perhaps validates the musicianship of the band as a whole.
James performed at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast last weekend.
