TWO men were taken to hospital after a vehicle smashed into a bus shelter and two shops in Wigan.

Emergency services were called to Ormskirk Road in Pemberton in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A black Mercedes had veered off the road and struck two business premises - a Bargain Booze off-licence and Your Choice fruit and veg store - before hitting the bus stop.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, both thought to be in their 20s, were taken to Wigan Infirmary and Salford Hospital, respectively.

Watch manager Isaac Olurankinse from Wigan fire station said: “We were called to reports of an RTC at just before 4am with two persons still in the vehicle.

“When we arrived paramedics were already on the scene and one of the pair was now out of the vehicle. The other was conscious and responding to paramedics.

“He was taken to Salford with suspected internal injuries. The other had suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wigan Infirmary.

“The car had been travelling towards Orrell when it left the road and struck both businesses before colliding with the bus shelter.”

The incident has now been handed over to Greater Manchester Police and is under investigation.
