TWO people were rescued from a car which was left teetering on the edge of a drop to a major road from a motorway bridge after a crash.
The vehicle was hanging precariously from the M6 motorway over the East Lancashire Road near Haydock, after the accident at 8.30am this morning (Sunday).
Rescue teams had to lift the car to safety, cutting free one person and rescuing another. One of the occupants suffered a leg injury, according to the North West Ambulance Service.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash which caused significant delays particularly southbound between the Haydock junction and junction 27 at Standish.
The accident caused significant tailbacks because two lanes of the motorway remained closed until late afternoon.
