A GROUP of generous individuals from a Wigan superstore has swapped stacking shelves for pedal power.
Tesco staff joined forces with colleagues across the UK to take part in a £1 million festive fund-raising weekend that was set to be the biggest ever held by the supermarket.
For the first time all Tesco stores, head offices and distribution centres came together for a campaign to Cycle to Lapland’ and raised money for Cancer Research UK.
Staff from the town centre superstore shared stints on a static bicycle, in the hope of clocking up enough miles to reach the home of Father Christmas.
The cycling formed part of a range of instore activities, including a raffle and Santa’s grotto.
Cancer Research UK is Tesco’s Charity of the Year for 2012 and the staff at the Wigan store aimed to raise as much money as possible to help hit the £10 million target.
Wigan staff member, Linzi Sharpe, 32 said it was very difficult because of the cold weather. She said: “We were all fighting to get on the bike to warm up!”
