A STRANGER who asked a Wigan pensioner for directions later returned to punch him in the face, ransack his house and steal his car.

The 85-year-old was first brought to the door of his house in Brook Lane, Pemberton, at 2am.

The man asked him if he knew the way to Pemberton and when it was explained he was already there, the victim pointed him in the direction of the shops towards Ormskirk Road and he left.

But about an hour later the man rang the doorbell again. When the victim answered the thief this time put his foot in the door and punched him in the face and said: “Give me the car keys.”

He walked in and searched the house. The offender stole the victim’s wallet and drove off in his silver Fiat Punto, registration PK54 YRL. The vehicle was abandoned within a few hours in the Bulteel Street, area of Pemberton,

He is described as being about 5ft 9ins tall, of average build. He spoke with a slurred voice and seemed drunk and wore a beige anorak with the hood up.
