EMERGENCY services were called to a property on Wigan Lower Road following reports a pensioner had become trapped beneath his car.

Police and two fire engines arrived at the Standish Lower Ground address yesterday tea-time (Monday) but found that the man, believed to be in his 80s, wasn’t stuck but had sustained injuries after trying to jump start his car.

A police spokesman said: “There were initial reports that the man was stuck under his car but this wasn’t the case. The vehicle caught his trousers and he had a fall. He had got a black eye and a cut to his head but it wasn’t too bad.”
