FIREFIGHTERS and paramedics worked together to save an elderly man who had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Fire crews from Wigan were first on the scene at Appleby Court Nursing Home, in Ellesmere Road, Pemberton, at 4pm on Saturday, as they performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an 83-year-old man.
Paramedics soon arrived and he was stabilised and taken to Wigan Infirmary.
Watch manager Mike Fairhurst said: “As we have defibrillators in our engines, we are called to assist paramedics. We were able to perform CPR and paramedics were able to administer technical aid. We worked together for half an hour and we got him stable to get to hospital.”
