A PENSIONER who admitted a sexual assault on a girl 15 years ago has now applied to change his plea to not guilty.

Gordon Heaton, 73, of Crawford Close, Aspull, had been due to be sentenced for the crime at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, having pleaded guilty to it at a hearing on May 13.

But Thursday’s hearing was adjourned after the court was told that Heaton was intending to contest the allegation against him after all.

An application will now be heard before a judge at Chester Crown Court on Monday June 29 as to whether the original plea must stand or whether the allegation can be tested before a jury.

Heaton had originally faced three indecent assault charges but two were allowed to lie on file when he pleaded guilty to the third.

It was alleged that he had sexually abused a girl when she was 10 between 2001 and 2002 at a farm in Beech Hill.

Heaton has been remanded on bail pending his appearance in Chester.
