Pensioners targeted by thieves

POLICE are hunting for two thieves who targeted an elderly couple in their own home.

Shortly after 12pm on Friday August 21, two men approached a house on Douglas Bank Drive and burst in through a side door.

The owners, a man and woman, in their 80s, were in the kitchen and were instructed to stay there by one of the men, whilst the other ran upstairs and searched the rooms.

A short time later, both men left the house empty handed and made off towards Woodhouse Lane.

The first offender is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old, and of large build. He was wearing a light grey tracksuit with the hood up and a dark scarf across his face.

The second offender is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, was wearing a tracksuit with the hood up and a dark scarf across his face.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare of Wigan division said: “This was a cowardly burglary on an elderly couple in their home.

“Fortunately, the victims were not hurt but we want to catch whoever did this and make sure they do not target any more people in this way.

“I am appealing to anybody with information, or who may have seen the men running away from the house at the time, to come forward and speak to police.”
