A WIGAN pervert is facing jail after being convicted of of an appalling catalogue of sex attacks on 10 young girls.

A jury at Liverpool Crown Court unanimously found 62-year-old Ronald Bain guilty of 28 sexual assault offences, including rape, spanning 25 years.

Further remanding him in custody until November 7, to enable a pre-sentence report to be prepared, Judge David Harris, QC, warned him he faces “a very substantial prison sentence”.

He also told him he would have consider issues about the danger he presented, and said he wanted victim impact statement from all the victims.

During the five-week trial, jurors heard that Bain’s victims ranged in age from six to 16, and they all turned up to give evidence against him.

Bain, of Smithwood Avenue, Hindley, denied all the allegations.

The court heard he had seven convictions for indecent exposure, in his home town of Lisburn, in Northern Ireland, in the 1970s.

Simon Christie, prosecuting, told the court the sex attacks began in 1985, and continued until last year.

His behaviour involved grooming his victims and then escalating to serious sexual assaults.

The offences were mainly specimens of his conduct which happened on many occasions.

His indecent behaviour included raping one girl when she was 12, and another when she was 14, and indecently assaulting her when she was 14 and 15,

He was cleared of one rape charge against that victim.

The girl raped when she was a 12-year-old virgin had told the jury told how Bain first began his behaviour by touching her legs when he sat on his knee, when she was about eight.

This developed into touching her indecently under her clothing ,and when she was 12, she remembered lying on his bed with him on top of her “like a dead weight”.

She said that when he raped her “I was shellshocked, frozen.”

She dealt with her ordeal by keeping it to herself but late last year she found out that he had also sexually abused her older sister and their younger sister then confided that she, too, had been his victim.

She had initially told a friend about it last year but did not feel strong enough to do anything about it but then “it seemed everywhere I turned he was there, he was in my face, waving.”

“He was always driving around with young girls in his car and his house was always full and I thought it has to be stopped.

“I found out my older sister had had a go at him when she saw him in his car with a little girl and had a go at him at home. She told him, ‘you days are numbered’ and he replied, “I know.”

Immediately afterwards, at Christmas, Bain fled to Ireland, she said.

Bain denied touching any of the victims sexually and said he had no explanation why the women had made the claims.

The court heard that two of the victims are a mother and daughter.
