YOUNGSTERS have used vocal chords to bring their local community together.
Members of Wigan Youth Voice organised a Picnic in Mesnes Park event, where a mixture of traditional and new activities were arranged to celebrate the best of British.
With a jazz band performing hits from years gone by and a fairground organ thrown in for good measure, activities also included archery, football, dance, rock climbing and basket weaving, while a magician was on hand to entertain.
Megan Jones, 18, from Wigan Youth Voice, said: “We wanted to raise funds to organise an event that the whole community could enjoy – from the younger to the older generations.
“Tying in with the Queen’s Jubilee year, we thought it fitting to arrange activities popular now and from previous times.
“And in true British fashion, the rain threatened to wash the event away, but fortunately we were well prepared with marquees providing much-needed shelter.
“I’d like to thank Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust for allowing us to use the park and Michelle Corsair, Park Ranger at WLCT, for all her help in helping to plan and also help out on the day.”
