Police appeal for information after ‘assault’

POLICE in Wigan are appealing for information about a woman they believe may have been assaulted.

Shortly after 2:20pm on Monday 16 May 2011, officers received a call from a concerned member of the public, who said that she had witnessed a woman in a white van being assaulted by a man.

The incident had happened at approximately 1.30pm while the van was stopped at traffic lights at St John Street in Atherton, on the junction with the corner of Mealhouse Lane.

The witness heard a scream coming from a white van, which had a woman sat inside inbetween two men.

The van is described as a white flatbed van with caging over the top, possibly beginning with the registration number GS53 or GL53.

The two men are described as white and in their 30s, of medium build and with short, dark mousey hair.
