POLICE believe a young Wigan man whose body was found in a wheelie bin may have been strangled.

Preliminary post-mortem examination results suggest that Steven Rourke died from asphyxiation.

The remains of the 26-year-old, who also went by the surname Lynch, were discovered by walkers in Victoria Fields, Bickershaw on Sunday morning - not far from his Bickershaw Lane home.

His family have paid tribute to “a lovely young man.”

Detectives have been granted more time to quiz three men arrested on suspicion of Steven’s murder.
