GHOSTLY noises prompted a police investigation at a Wigan bank.

A startled member of staff at the NatWest in Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, heard mysterious bangingscoming from the bowels of the building before opening hours on Tuesday and rang 999 .

Six police cars arrived, but after a detailed search of the building, officers could not find anything wrong.

A spokesman for Pemberton neighbourhood team said: “Officers were called to the bank after we received reports of noises coming from within the closed premises.

“We gained access to the building and officers conducted a search but could not find anything amiss.“

Residents today speculated that a notorious local spook might be up to its tricks again.
