DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after a woman was attacked and had her car stolen in Wigan.

It happened between 12.15pm and 12.20pm on Thursday, November 6, when a man rode onto Aldi car park on a pedal bike.

He approached a woman who was sat in the driver’s seat of a black Volkswagen Touran with registration YA05HTY; the keys were in the ignition, but the engine wasn’t running.

The offender jumped into the passenger seat and shouted “give me your phone and your keys”. The assailant attempted to push her out of the driver’s door and grabbed her phone.

She resisted and pushed the offender back before getting out of the car. The thief then started the car and drove off turning right out of the car park onto Scot Lane out of sight.

The offender is described as white, between 5ft 10 and 6ft tall, of medium build, in his 20s with dark eyebrows and spoke with a local accent.

He had a plain black scarf covering his face and wore an outdoor style waterproof jacket with the hood up, and black bottoms. He rode a mountain bike which had been re-sprayed pink with a white frame and bright green pedals and bright green hand grips.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Rigby from Wigan division, said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t physically injured, but that doesn’t lessen the impact of this crime.

“The victim deserves the peace of mind of seeing this man locked up, so I am appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.

“The robbery happened in the middle of the day in a busy supermarket car park, there will have been customers in the area that saw the man on his bike or witnessed the incident.

“Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7124 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
