POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men grabbed a man as he sat in his Ford Focus.

At around 1.50pm on Friday, the 38-year-old was allowing another car to pass at a narrow point on Edge Green Road near to where it turns into Ridings Lane in Stubshaw Cross when two men approached him.

They opened the driver’s door, made threats and tried to pull him out of the car. He managed to fend them off before he drove off.

Both men were dressed in black and wearing full face balaclavas.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie based at Wigan Police Station said: “We believe the men were trying to steal his car but fortunately he was not injured, however he has been left shaken up.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have seen two men in the area acting suspiciously to contact us. We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have been approached by these men.

“This took place in the middle of the afternoon and we believe someone may have seen something. If you did, please contact us.”
