Police hunt pair over bike theft

THESE two men are suspected of being behind the theft of an expensive mountain bike at Wigan Wallgate station.

The pair are believed to have struck on Saturday, June 6 at around 5.30pm after alighting a train from Southport.

A maroon Trek mountain bike worth £260 was stolen.

PC Daniel Armstrong, of British Transport Police, said: “Two men got off a train from Southport at Wigan, one on foot and the other with a BMX bike.

“The first man approached the victim’s bike and snapped the locks used to secure it. He walked away with the bike before handing it to the other man in exchange for the BMX.

“The pair left the station separately, both heading towards Wigan North Western station.

“The owner returned to collect her bike at around 8.15pm to find that it had been taken.”

Officers believe the men in the images could have vital information about the theft and urge them or anyone who recognises them to get in touch immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B14 of 01/07/2015.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Police say bicycles are a popular target for thieves are urge riders to always lock their bikes.
