Prime Minister hails ‘incredible’ Youth Zone

PRIME Minister David Cameron dropped in on Wigan’s Youth Zone and said the town can be proud to have the biggest youth club in the country.

Plans have been under way for some time now for Mr Cameron to officially open the facility but it was only finally confirmed on Wednesday that he would be able to make the visit.

The Prime Minister met staff and children at the Parsons Walk building and took time see what it has to offer.

Dave Whelan has always said he wanted Mr Cameron to visit the Youth Zone and said he was “thrilled” that it was finally happening.

The Prime Minister said: “To be here today to see this incredible, thriving club gives me great pleasure.

It’s a great day for Wigan - Wigan has now got the biggest youth club anywhere in the country.

It’s a great day for all the young people of Wigan becuase you’ve got this extraordinary facility to use night after night and now in the school holidays.

I think it’s a fantastic resource for young people in Wigan.”

Protesters opposed to fracking and the proposed new bedroom tax gathered outside the front of the Youth Zone but there was no disorder.
