Pure delight for cafe owner Raffie

IF RAFFIE Bridge's passion for healthy food is anything to go by then her new venture – the Pure Organika Cafe in Orrell – is sure to be a success.

The mother-of-one opened up the organic vegetarian cafe at McKinsey Organic Herb Farm on Orrell Road recently, and by doing so fulfilled a lifelong ambition.

"It is something that I have always been passionate about," said Raffie. "Eating food with no chemicals or preservatives and I thought that there must be people out there who think the same way."

The 33-year-old, who has a degree in hospitality, worked in the French hotel industry before returning to her North West roots.

"I have always cooked this sort of food for my friends and family and it was them who have given me the confidence to open Pure Organika," she said.

The cafe's menu features an array of home-made delights including nettle soup, apple and vine muffins, freshly-made salads, toasties, red pepper falafel and the popular fruit smoothies.

"We use organic and local supplies whenever possible," said Raffie. "So far the custom has been promising. A lot of people have heard of us through word of mouth and there seems to be a market out there.

"More and more people are turning to healthy, organic food and we are one of the few cafes who can offer it."

The business was set-up at the McKinsey Farm after Raffie got to know the owner, Mandy Wellens-Bray, who also runs a nursery and shop on site where fresh organic herbs and flowers can be purchased.

"It is very relaxed and customers often comment how beautiful it is," added the cafe owner.

"I'm really passionate about getting kids involved in healthy eating and we have toys and activities to keep them happy. The customers come from all age ranges and everyone is welcome along to try our food.

"We have even had meat-eaters in who have loved the food and all I ask of people is to sample it to see what they think."

Pure Organika, which also has an outdoor eating area, is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

Raffie has started a mother and toddler group every Monday from 10am to noon and hopes to run an OAP day on Wednesdays as well as various taster sessions.

Organic buffets can also be ordered from the cafe, along with a large range of organic produce including ready meals.
