Readers rally to help little Naomi's fund

Wigan Evening Post readers have been showing their continued support for our campaign to help a toddler with Cystic Fibrosis.

Naomi Farrington, of Ince, is just two years old and must endure hours of manual physiotherapy each day to ease her suffering.

In order to give her a better chance and significantly prolong her life, her family is hoping to raise 20,000 to pay for a special compression vest which is only available in America.

The money will also pay for essential adjustments to the vest as Naomi grows up, plus shipping and insurance costs.

Already, 5,000 has been raised – including one anonymous donation of 1,000.

Her mum and dad, Sarah Prowse and Christopher Farrington, say the vest, which will eradicate the need for manual physiotherapy, will make a world of difference to Naomi, as she currently struggles with the two hour physio sessions she must undergo each day.

Sarah said: "It is very difficult for her as she doesn't like sitting still or lying down and physical exercise tires her out easily.

"At the moment the average life expectancy of someone with Cystic Fibrosis 31 years-old. If Naomi could use a compression vest, her life could not only last longer but she will be much happier, which to us as a family is priceless.

"So we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped."

The main aim of the campaign is to help prolong Naomi's life but if any money is left over it will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Now, thanks to readers, the funds are on the increase. Cheques have been flooding in, each one making a difference.

Tracy Morris, Naomi's aunt, is heading the fund-raising. Along with other members of Naomi's extended family, Tracy is planning a huge fundraising event at Jay Dee's, in Poolstock, on July 12.

Tracy said: "We have been given some fantastic prizes for raffles and an auction, but we are always on the lookout for more."

Prizes already being raffled include two weeks in a Florida villa, a 22-inch LCD television with built in dvd and freeview, and 50 cash.

And more prizes have been held back for the July 12 fundraiser,

including 12 months free membership for Royce's Gym, on Manchester Road, Ince.

Other business which have added to the incredible list include Asda, which donated a Nintendo DS Game; Dickinson's Menswear, with a 20 gift voucher; and Big Picture Studio, with one 12x16 framed photograph plus free sitting.

In addition, Sam's Bar, on Ince Parade, is still graced with the presence of a huge cuddly penguin which is the subject of a "guess my birthday"competition.

Tracy said: "They have taken around 60 so far for that and there are 90 dates to guess from. You can't knock all the customers for having a go!"

To make a donation, send cheques payable to 'Naomi's Fight' to Kristina Santus, Wigan Evening Post, Martland Mill, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan. WN5 0LX
