Record results in GCSEs

MOST Wigan high schools have smashed their previous bests as GCSE results start to roll in.

Early signs are that the borough is not only in for a record year but perhaps will see its overall average for higher grades rocket by the largest ever amount.

Several schools have been vying for the top spot in the league table with St Peter’s at Orrell, Standish High and Hawkley Hall HS recording a best-ever percentage of 84 per cent of pupils gaining five or more A* to C grades including English and maths.
