A 24-year-old man accused of murder following the discovery of a body dumped in a wheelie bin in Wigan has appeared before a Liverpool Crown Court judge.

James Anthony Jepson is charged with killing Steven Rourke, 26, who was discovered on open land off Bickershaw Lane, Bickershaw, on Sunday, March 25.

A post-mortem examination indicated that Mr Rourke had been strangled.

Jepson, also know as Kelly, of Bickershaw Lane, appeared via video link from Liverpool prison, before the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC.

He was further remanded in custody until July 20, when he is expected to enter his plea. A date for his trial, expected to last eight days, was provisionally fixed to begin on September 3.
