RESIDENTS at a Wigan sheltered accommodation centre have won a £810 Neighbourhood Fund grant to pay for a new craft room.

The cash was used to purchase equipment, tables and a variety of arts and crafts materials.

Jackie Calderbank, scheme co-ordinator at Wickham Hall, said: “The new craft room has been a huge success.

“Everyone really enjoys trying the new activities whilst enjoying a cup of tea and natter with friends.”

Wickham Hall provides residents with 36 flats specifically designed to meet the needs of older people.

The scheme benefits from providing an extra care service for people special requirements.

Jackie added: “The residents have been really creative with the new equipment and made some lovely table centre pieces, which were used at the residents’
Christmas lunch.”

Lindsay Ogden, neighbourhood development officer from Adactus, which runs Wickham Hall, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to support this project. Hobbies are an excellent way to learn new skills, keep active and build friendships.”
