A MAN was robbed at knifepoint as he walked near the canal in Whelley.
At around 9.30pm on Monday, March 5, a 34-year-old man was walking down the canal bank from Whelley towards Wigan.
Two men who had been sitting on the arm of the canal lock at ‘Rabbit Rocks’, got up and approached the man. One of them asked the victim for a lighter and a cigarette, which he declined. The man then spoke to his accomplice in a foreign language as he started to check the victim’s pockets.
He then pulled a knife from his pocket and held it to the victim’s chest, while the second man stole money and cigarettes from him.
Both men then ran off in the direction of Whelley.
