Robbers wielding crowbars raid store

At around 10.20pm on Sunday March 26, police were called to reports that two balaclava-clad men armed with large red crowbars entered a Co-op store on Richmond Drive in Leigh and demanded money.

They forced staff members to move into the back of the store before stealing a large quantity of cash and some cigarettes.

They then fled in a white Peugeot 3008 car onto Richmond Drive and headed into the Higher Folds estate in the direction of Queens Way.

Both offenders were wearing all black clothing, including balaclavas and gloves.

One of the men is described as slim and approximately 6ft 2in and the other as stocky and approximately 5ft 11in. They both spoke with local accents.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson-Perry, of GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “This was a distressing ordeal for both staff and members of the public that were in the store and a large amount of cash has been stolen.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any other information that might lead us to these men then I urge you to get in touch as soon as possible.”
