Schoolgirl escapes after attempted abduction

A Wigan schoolgirl fought free and fled in terror after an attempt to abduct her off the street.

The 12-year-old was walking home from school along Lincoln Drive, Aspull, on Wednesday afternoon when a car pulled up alongside her.

She told police that the passenger door opened and she was grabbed by the left elbow and right side of the waist and an attempt was made to pull her into the vehicle.

But she put up a struggle and managed to break free and run away.

Police today confirmed that they had received reports of an attempted abduction in Lincoln Drive at around 5pm on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said that inquiries were ongoing and that at present there are no descriptions of the would-be kidnapper although the car may have been a small hatchback.
