POLICE investigating the rape of a 13-year-old girl on her way to school have made an arrest.
A 26-year-old man from Astley was arrested this morning, Wednesday, 19 June, on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington from GMP’s Wigan division, said: “I hope residents are reassured by this quick arrest, but I want to stress that the investigation does not stop here.
“We are continuing to look into this most horrendous of crimes and we are continuing to support the victim.
“We are also continuing to appeal for witnesses.”
