WIGANERS are to be sent scratch and sniff cards that smell like drugs in a bid to crack down on the number of cannabis farms in the borough.

The cards are the latest weapon in the fight against drug crime and the independent charity Crimestoppers will deliver them to residents so that they can find out what the plant smells like and inform police if they have suspicions in their neighbourhood.

GMP is supporting the campaign and detective superintendent Mark Smith said: “Organised criminals see cannabis cultivation as a low risk, high profit venture, and there is clear evidence that they use cannabis production as a way to fund a range of other criminal activities, such as violent crime and trafficking Class A drugs. If you suspect report it to us on 101.
