A DRAMATIC rescue attempt was sparked after a stunned dog walker spotted a seal stranded in the middle of a farmer’s field.
Police were called to Red Bank Farm, on the outskirts of Wigan, shortly before 10am this morning (Monday). The juvenile grey seal was subsequently contained by officers and conservation officers called.
Members of the public were warned to stay away for their own safety.
Nicola Watkinson, who works at the Red Bank Farm Shop, told the Liverpool Echo: “The only thing we can think of is that there’s a little brook nearby, so maybe it has come from there.
“We’ve got traffic piled up with people looking at it, and there’s lots of police here.
“It’s alive, it’s moving around. They are trying to get near it but it’s not very friendly.”
