A THIEF who stole food and drink from two stores on five occasions in three days has been given a community order.

Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court heard Terence Minshull, from Kitt Green, made four trips to the Co-operative store in Orrell between June 22 and 25, taking items including a sirloin steak, a burger and a bottle of wine.

Katie Beattie, prosecuting, told the court Minshull, of Moorside Avenue, also stole three bottles of wine when visiting the One Stop Store in Orrell with a friend on June 22.

In addition to admitting the five counts of theft, Minshull also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a community order after failing to attend two appointments in June and a charge of failing to surrender to custody on August 15 after being released on bail. He was identified by CCTV footage from the supermarket.

Andrew Stock, defending, said Minshull attributed his behaviour to being unable to take his medication after it was stolen by a friend who was staying with him.

The court activated a breach requirement activity in the previous order and also gave Minshull a further 12-week order for the thefts with a curfew. He was also told to pay £194 in compensation, with costs deducted from his benefits.
