A MAN has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenaged girl.
Vincent Baskerville, 64, of Union Street, Leigh, was jailed for five years and four months and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life by a judge at Liverpool Crown Court.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault at an earlier hearing.
Baskerville began abusing the girl, now 22, when she was aged 16 in 2004 and the abuse continued until April 2010.
The girl contacted police and reported Baskerville had abused her and had sex with her over a six-year period.
DC Paolo Dale, from Wigan Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: “This woman has been incredibly brave by coming forward, helping us put Baskerville through the court process and putting him behind bars. We take all reports of sexual abuse seriously no matter how long ago they happened.”
