NEW figures show that the number of related sex cases have increased throughout Wigan - GMP issuing more than 50 cautions in the past year alone.
New statistics reveal that the force is among those issuing the highest number of verbal warnings from officers for sex offences in the year to September. According to the new figures, Lancashire Police issued the second biggest number of cautions outside the Metropolitan Police force area.
A total of 1,453 police cautions for sexual offences, including sexual assault, were issued across the county.
Labour MP George Howarth obtained the statistics following a parliamentary question. These also revealed that Kent Police came top after issuing 69 cautions for sexual offences. This was closely followed by Lancashire Police with 66 and West Midlands Police with 65 warnings. The news comes after a review of the use of cautions was unveiled earlier this month.
