THE captains of Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic have become the latest to take on the ice bucket challenge.
Sean O’Loughlin and Emmerson Boyce are used to warm receptions at the DW Stadium but it was slightly different yesterday.
The ice bucket challenge has gone viral in recent weeks with celebrities and everyday folk posting videos of themselves having buckets of ice water poured over their heads.
There is a point to it all though, with the person taking part donating to charity and then nominating other people to do it next.
And this week it was the turn of the town’s two sporting captains.
Sean and Emmerson took part for Joseph’s Goal, a local charity for which they are both ambassadors. They were nominated by the charity’s founder Paul Kendrick, the Evening Post’s Wigan Athletic correspondent.
When it came to finding volunteers to do the pouring, there were two stand out options with Sean’s wife Sarah and Emmerson’s wife Lucy quick to put their hands up.
As the sportsmen took their seats pitchside and bravely nominated their respective coaches, their partners couldn’t help but smile as they drenched and froze them with a small bucket each before picking up a bin full of ice water to get them both together.
However, there was a chance for Emmerson to get his own back as he got to drench wife Lucy too.
