POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace, after a suitcase containing a fancy dress costume was stolen from a Wigan to Birmingham train.

The case was snatched while its owner slept on the morning service on Saturday May 9.

PC Andy Stoddart, investigating, said: “A 27-year-old woman, from Southport, boarded a Birmingham-bound train at Wigan North Western station shortly after 7am. She placed her suitcase in the on board racks and sat nearby.

“A short time later the woman fell asleep and only woke when the train arrived at Birmingham New Street. When she checked the rack, she realised her case had gone. Inside the case was a rare replica character costume from the popular Disney film Frozen, along with other personal effects.” Officers are pursuing several lines of inquiry, including speaking to witnesses from the train. They are now appealing for the public’s assistance tracing a man they want to speak to about what happened.

PC Stoddart added: “We would like to speak with the man pictured as a matter of urgency. We believe he got off the train at Sandwell and Dudley station. If you recognise him, or have any further information, please get in touch.”
