A WIGAN man has appeared in court accused of stabbing a dog.

Carl Joseph Maloney, 36, is charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an American bulldog in Wigan on August 13.

He is also being prosecuted for having a bladed article - a kitchen knife - in a public place on the same day.

Maloney, of Warrington Lane, Scholes, has yet to enter a plea.

Wigan and Leigh magistrates agreed that a charge of damaging the pet dog belonging to Elizabeth Elliot and causing an £80 injury, could to be dropped,

After hearing a summary of the allegations the bench decided to decline jurisdiction and Maloney will now appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a directions hearing on Feburary 19.
