POLICE are investigating an arson attack on a Wigan industrial estate.
Firefighters from Hindley and Wigan were called to E and J Construction, in Bolton House Road, Bickershaw, at 6pm on Sunday after yobs torched two storage units and a caravan in the yard.
Crews used two jets to extinguish the flames.
The blaze completely gutted the caravan and storage units, which contained furniture.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The police were called at 7.45pm after Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tackled a fire on the construction site.
“The fire was started deliberately and enquiries are ongoing.”
Meanwhile, police are still investigating the cause of a blaze on Standish Court Golf Club, in Rectory Lane, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The inferno destroyed the single-storey building.
The clubhouse and golf course land is jointly owned by Morris and Persimmon Homes.
The firms say they are now working together to come to a decision concerning the site’s future.
The golf club, which opened in the mid-1990s, closed in 2010 and went into voluntary liquidation.
The facilities were then reopened in 2011, under the new ownership of Morris Homes and Persimmon, but closed earlier this year.
A spokesman for Morris Homes said: “We will work with joint landowners Persimmon and the authorities to ensure the site is made safe following this devastating fire.
“It is disappointing that the site has been commercially unviable as a golf course despite the best efforts of a number of different commercial operators and our hope is that a new use can be found for the land to avoid it falling into disrepair.”
